I recall when your countenance
was full of grace
and your neon smile lit up every space
laying my heart to waste
the moment I saw your face.
In an instant, I knew we were to be
like a prophecy I could see
a life together I longed to live.
But that vision became a shimmer
and gradually grew dimmer
as my heart became dejected and divided
when we came to this beautiful wasteland.
I hope you know,
there was nothing you could do
I was fracted and detracted
a splintered heart long ago maimed
disconnected from God, I was untamed
but your love never retracted
despite lances lunged through your heart.
In the end
nothing could mend
two broken souls,
uninspired and cold
clinging to a corpse
of a love that died with remorse.
