By mere chance or happenstance
I caught a glimmering glance,
when you stepped in the room.
I saw you, and you saw me
or so it seemed,
the sublimity of your gravity
pulled me into orbit.
My heart has been at war but
your glazing gaze amazed me,
your pleasing presence phased me and
the bible on your table
further enclaved me.
I must admit
you were but a fleeting fancy;
and though enchanting
how unwise to idolize
and make you a passing prize.
Yet my heart has been forlorn
and in timidity torn
by steadfast belief
that the ashes of my affections
have long grown cold.
In my mire,
you were desire’s reminder
dropping the blinders
draped head to heart;
opening the chimney,
ready to spark
the lost log of love
gone dark.
